🕯️ From Sketch to Scent: Turning Pokémon Into Cozy Candles and Wax Melts

Lately, I’ve been completely absorbed in Pokémon, and honestly, I’m not even mad 💖

Between playing Pokopia, revisiting old favorites, keeping up to date on my favorite Rom Hacks and seeing all the new game and anniversary hype, I’ve been surrounded by Pokémon nonstop… which naturally means one thing:

✨ I had to start turning that inspiration into candles and wax melts.

But what’s been really fun is gushing about how cute the personalities of each Pokémon are 😭

The more I play and interact with them, the more I notice how clearly their vibes translate into scent and visuals.

For example:

  • 🌿 The Eeveelutions all have such distinct personalities. Some feel soft and calming, while others are more bold or mysterious and that directly influences the kinds of scent blends and color palettes I reach for.
  • ⚡ Pikachu has this bright, energetic charm that always pulls me toward fun, citrusy, playful scent profiles.
  • 👻 And Gengar? Definitely more on the cozy-dark side. Moody tones, and a little bit of chaos mixed in 👀

As I play and think about future scents, it’s not just about making something that looks inspired anymore, it’s about creating something that actually feels like them.

And that’s where the real magic happens ✨

🎮 Step One: Picking the Perfect Pokémon

Not every Pokémon becomes a candle or wax melt right away. Sometimes it really depends on what I’m currently playing, who’s on my team, or which character I just can’t stop thinking about 👀

When I’m choosing, I usually look for:

  • Fan favorites (the ones everyone instantly recognizes)
  • Strong color palettes
  • Distinct personalities or “types” that translate well into scent

As a long-time player, I can’t help but think of it like building a team. You want variety, balance, and personalities that stand out.

Some Pokémon just immediately click as a scent concept and once that happens, I already know I’m about to spiral into testing ideas lol 🎮✨

🌸 Step Two: Turning That Vibe Into a Scent

This is where I go full “if this Pokémon had a scent… what would it smell like?” mode 👀

Instead of asking what they smell like, I think about:

  • their type
  • their energy
  • their environment
  • pretty much their whole vibe in battle vs. chill moments

Then I build from there.

For example, I naturally lean into:

  • 🌿 Grass / nature vibes
→ green notes, florals, fresh blends that feel calm and grounded
💚 This is exactly the direction I took with my Leafeon crystal candle. Soft, green, and a super calming scent.
  • 🔥 Fire / high-energy types
→ citrus, spice, warmth, a little sweetness to balance

🧡 My Flareon crystal candle leans into a cozy warmth with a hint of spice so it doesn’t feel too heavy.

  • 🌊 Water / chill types
→ clean, airy, aquatic notes with light citrus
💙 Vaporeon crystal candle feels super fresh and playful. Like a light reset after a long day.

The goal is always to make it feel like a moment in the game, not just a random scent.

🎨 Step Three: Color & Melt Design

Once the scent is locked in, it’s time to bring the visuals to life. This is my favorite part! I get to match that Pokémon's vibe to make a beautiful looking candle or melt ✨

For candles, I keep things clean and cozy with:

  • 🎨 Colored wax that matches the character/type
  • ✨ A soft shimmer of mica on top
  • 💎 Crystals will be meticulously chosen to match the vision

For wax melts, I have a little more fun with it:

  • 🌈 Color combinations that reflect their palette
  • ✨ Glitter + shimmer that matches their vibe
  • 💖 Designs that feel playful, bold, or moody depending on the Pokémon

For example:

  • Pikachu-inspired pieces → bright yellows with extra sparkle
  • 👻 Gengar designs → deeper purples with moody shimmer

🔥 Step Four: Testing & Tweaking

This is the part that keeps me humble 😭 Not every scent works on the first try.

Sometimes:

  • The blend is too strong or too subtle and I need to go back to balancing out ratios
  • The notes don’t blend the way I imagined
  • It sometimes smells completely different once melted or burned (this is what we call the hot through)
  • And sometimes the fragrance or color overloads the wick and it wont even burn

It’s basically like testing builds in a game- trial, error, adjust, repeat 🎮

I keep tweaking until it finally hits that sweet spot where everything feels balanced and true to the original idea.

💭 Step Five: The Final Check

Before anything goes live, I always stop and ask:

Does this actually feel like them?

Not just:

  • does it smell good
  • does it look cute

But:
👉 Would this make sense as their “signature scent”?

I want it to feel like something you’d experience in their world, like walking into a scene and instantly recognizing the vibe.

💖 Why I Love Making Pokémon-Inspired Scents

Working with Pokémon-inspired candles and wax melts just hits differently every time 💖

  • 🧸 It taps into that nostalgia from playing over the years
  • 🎮 It lets me combine gaming + creativity in the best way
  • ✨ And it gives me a way to share those vibes with you all, which was why I started this business all those years ago!

It’s not just merch, it’s like turning your favorite moments, teams, and characters into something you can actually experience.

🌙 Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, every candle and wax melt starts the same way:

  • 💭 A character
  • 🎮 A moment
  • 👀 And that “wait… this would smell SO good” idea

And then it slowly turns into something real. Something you can light, melt, and enjoy in your own space.

Which is still the coolest thing to me 💖✨
